Groups – The ReStore can accommodate groups of up to 15 people. Volunteer dates MUST be scheduled in advance. This is a great team building activity for people in your work place, place of worship, and civic group, and a great way to give back to the community!
When: Year-round, Monday through Saturday
Minimum time commitment: no less than a 3-4 hour block of time, does not have to come more than once
Work site: 408 Madison St.
Supervisor: ReStore managers or Volunteer Coordinator
Description: The tasks of the group will vary, depending on what is currently going on in the store. Tasks may be sorting items, moving items, landscaping, painting, rearranging departments, creating new departments, restocking shelves, pricing items, cleaning items, helping people carry merchandise to cars, etc.

Ability to work closely with ReStore staff, volunteers, customers, and fellow group members

Donations Dock Coordinator – If you enjoy working with people, this is the position for you! The Donations Dock Coordinator accepts donations directly from drop-off donors and educates customers on what we accept and do not accept to maintain a high quality of sellable goods.
Book Lover/Book Section Assistantt – Our book section is growing! We’re looking for folks to sort donated books, learn our pricing system, keep the section organized, and separate the jewels from the junk.
Mr./Ms. Fix-it Repair Volunteer – A wobbly leg or scratch can mean the death of an otherwise great donation. With a little attention (repair, refinishing, etc) these items can not only help raise funds for Habitat, they can also be rescued from unnecessarily cluttering our landfills. We’re looking for someone to help provide some TLC to our furniture and other items that need touch-ups.
When: Year-round, Tuesday through Saturday. Make your own schedule
Minimum time commitment: no hourly requirement, but you must finish any project you start
Work site: 408 Madison St.
Supervisor: Store Managers
Description: Perfect for those handy people who enjoy refurbishing neglected furniture. Take pieces of furniture that need repairs, refinishing, or other care, and prepare them to be sold in the ReStore. Choose your own projects based on your ability.
Requirements:
Self-sufficient, requiring little supervision
Knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy of Habitat for Humanity
Cooperative attitude
Ability to work closely with ReStore staff and volunteers
Basic woodworking ability and familiarity with tools
NOTE: Orientation to the woodshop, with its available tools and other supplies, will be provided by either a staff member or another Repair Volunteer. The opportunity to expand one’s woodworking skills through interaction with other Repair Volunteers exists, but we are unable to provide formal training in woodworking and furniture repair. You, the volunteer, must come to the position with at least a basic knowledge about woodworking.

Website Content Specialist/ReStore Reporter – Do you have a knack for writing short, catchy articles? Write short (500 words or less) articles to be posted on the ReStore website! Topics will be ReStore-related, from how-to articles to profiles of our special events. We will have some story suggestions for you, but you can also come up with your own ideas! This volunteer position can largely be accomplished from your home computer, with an occasional need to come in for research and interviews.
Internet Sales Assistant - The ReStore is at the beginning stages of an online sales initiative in order to help Habitat build more homes each year! If you have good writing skills and are comfortable with basic internet research and using a digital camera, we can use your help! The job is largely creating descriptions of special items (mostly books and small collectibles) to post on internet marketplaces such as Craig’s List.
Metal Recycling Project Assistant – The ReStore is starting a Metal Recycling Project in order to maximize our proceeds and minimize waste. You wouldn’t believe the amount of appliances we receive that don’t actually work! We need folks to help remove metal components (faucets, disposals, drains, etc) from donations that cannot be resold, and sort them according to the type of metal. No skills required, just a willingness to learn!
When: Year-round, Tuesday-Saturday. Make your own schedule
Minimum time commitment: 3-4 hours per week
Work site: ReStore Metal Recycling headquarters at 408 Madison St.
Supervisor: Store Manager & Assistant Manager
Description: Perfect for people who are handy, enjoy taking things apart, and want to help Habitat! The ReStore is starting a new metal recycling project in order to maximize the proceeds from donated items in order to help Habitat build more homes. We receive many generous donations of appliances, but unfortunately not all are in appropriate condition to be resold. Through the metal recycling program, we hope to be able to salvage as many of the metal components as possible before discarding items that cannot be sold. The project will also help the ReStore to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills annually. The metal recycling project assistant will be responsible for removing metal components (faucets, disposals, and drains from sinks and tubs, copper wire, ceiing fan and washing machine motors, etc.) and sorting them into recycling containers according to type of metal. Training will be provided.

Retail Staff Assistant – With donations coming in daily, the backroom can get pretty full. This volunteer role helps sort, clean, and prepare donated items to be priced. After the staff prices them, we take them out to the sales floor. You never know what’s coming in, and you’ll be the first to see the incredible stuff that people donate – from basic couches and sinks to jet skis and church pews!
When: Year-round, Tuesday through Saturday
Minimum time commitment: minimum of two 4-hour shifts per month

Description: Join our dynamic, energetic team to help keep the ReStore running smoothly! Work with the managers, staff, and other volunteers to manager one or more sections of the store, keep donations moving through our stock room, get donated items priced and ready to hit the floor, keep store sections stocked and tidy, or assist with customer service by serving as a resource to shoppers on the sales floor.

Cashier Extraordinaire/ Customer Service Pro - The front register staff are the first people a shopper sees at the ReStore. We’re looking for folks who like to interact with people throughout the day and feel comfortable running a cash register. You’ll spend your time with our great staff and volunteers while meeting people from your community, all of whom are supporting Habitat!
When: Year-round, Tuesday through Saturday
Minimum time commitment: at least two 4-hour shifts per month on a bi-weekly basis for at least three consecutive months
Worksite: 408 Madison St.
Supervisor: Store Manager and Assistant Manager
Description: Join our dynamic team and be the first face customers see when they come into the ReStore! Meet a variety of people from the community while working alongside managers, staff, and other volunteers to manage the cash register area, use the cash register to ring up sales, and provide a friendly face to customers arriving in the store.
Requirements:
Knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy of Habitat for Humanity
Cooperative attitude
Ability to work closely with ReStore staff, volunteers, and customers
Comfort with/willingness to learn cash register functions and handle money
Spend 2-3 shifts volunteering as a Retail Staff Assistant before beginning cash register training

Special Event Volunteer Opportunities The ReStore has a number of special events throughout the year, including an annual Green Thumb Festival in May and a fall event called ReCreate that features local artists that work recycle and repurpose materials in their art. We always need volunteers to come out and help during these events, either for a single shift or for the whole day. Email or call the volunteer coordinator to be added to the Special Events list, and we’ll contact you when an event is approaching to give you the details and let you know what we need help with.
When: Year-round, volunteers will be contacted when events are scheduled
Minimum time commitment: 4 hours per event (you don’t have to commit to every event in order to be on the list)
Worksite: 408 Madison St. or predetermined special events sites (eg: Fright on Franklin or Community Awareness Day at Veteran’s Plaza )
Supervisor: Store Managers, Volunteer Coordinator
Description: Proved staffing and organizational help during special events. Examples include annual events such as Green Thumb Festival in the Spring or the the fall festival, ReCreate.
